After a first meeting through friends at an outdoor Vortex party, it was clear that Sam and Pierre’s path to true love was destined to be anything but ordinary – a fact borne out by Pierre’s truly original proposal during a trip to Tofo, in Mozambique. Not content with the tried and tested method of proposing on dry land, Pierre instead waited till the couple went scuba diving. At the couple’s safety stop, he popped the age-old question on a slate underwater, and popped a heart-shaped ring on Sam’s finger for good measure. Her underwater tears were cause for some concern, but her emphatic ‘YES’ when they reached the surface put Pierre’s mind at ease, and put the couple on the road to wedded bliss.

As everyone knows, an extraordinary wedding takes time – and with a proposal like that, how could their wedding be anything but? With that in mind, Sam and Pierre gave themselves ample time to prepare for an exceptional celebration ¬– a full year, to be precise. Booking their venue, caterers and minister so far in advance gave them time to visit a wedding show for more ideas – a decision that proved to be invaluable. Armed with a wealth of information, they set about planning the wedding together (setting an extraordinary example for other couples!) and enjoyed every moment of choosing their favourite photographer, flowers, entertainment, menus and more. Their advice on making the planning process so stress-free? Doing a little preparation each weekend, and avoiding the tendency to panic!

When it came to the big day, the ceremony was nothing short of a fairytale – a truly extraordinary start to the rest of their lives together. The service itself was a short, emotional testament to the couple’s love for each other, with plenty of fun, light-heartedness and interactivity to make the experience worthwhile for everyone involved.

Taking the wedding from festive to fabulous, Sam and Pierre’s photographer entered into the spirit of things with memorable shots of family and friends throughout the reception. The sounds of Jack Johnson ushered the couple into the celebration, and short speeches and a spitbraai were the ideal way to get the party started in style. But perhaps the most showstopping feature of all was the extraordinary fire poi show, performed by 6 professional fire dancers, and captured by the photographer in all its sizzling glory.

From one amazing event to another – the honeymoon – which was spent at a Hout Bay guesthouse over 3 romantic nights. But if you think the couple’s extraordinary story ends there, you’d be wrong – because the official honeymoon in Madagascar is still to take place. 2 weeks of love, laughter, and (you guessed it) lots of scuba diving!
