Ask anyone where the best place to meet a future partner for life would be, and chances are ‘a nightclub’ wouldn’t be at the top of their list. But Fate, it seems, had very different plans for Leanne and Nicholas, and a nightclub is exactly where their first meeting took place.
Back at the same nightclub, and after having played hard to get for a while (just as any self-respecting girl would!), Leanne finally agreed to a first date with Nicholas – or should we say ‘an evening out’, as to this day, neither of them can agree on whether it was an official date or not... an evening made all the more inauspicious by Leanne telling her mother afterwards that Nicholas was definitely not ‘boyfriend material’!
But Fate was not to be put off so easily, and boyfriend material Nicholas soon turned out to be. Not for long, as it turns out – because Nicholas moved straight to fiancé material after a proposal as ingenious as it was romantic. Whisking Leanne away for a weekend of whale watching in Hermanus, Nicholas had picked up the engagement ring (under the pretext of working late) from a friend who had flown down from Jozi, and then proceeded to drive to Hermanus and go shopping with Leanne – all the while with the ring burning a hole in his pocket. Needless to say, as soon as they were ensconced in their romantic guesthouse on the cliffs, complete with champagne and roses, Nicholas proposed almost immediately, and received an emphatic ‘YES!’ for his troubles!
It was at this point that Fate was smiling, and so was the happy couple. Beginning their wedding plans in early 2007 after a September 2006 proposal, their biggest dilemma was in finding a wedding venue that was as pleasing on the inside as it was on the outside. After a lengthy search, Temaras @ Delvera was chosen as the perfect setting for their perfect day.
From then on, all preparations went without a hitch, from finding the ideal dress and decorations to deciding on the colours and catering. The only problem that the couple encountered was making sure that their bridesmaid would arrive from Ireland on time, and even that was resolved in plenty of time. Fate was taking no chances with Leanne and Nicholas.
Finally the big day arrived – a glorious event that combined traditional elements with modern ones, such as the circular seating arrangement that left a small gap for the bride, groom and minister to complete. After the ceremony, the guests formed yet another circle round the couple while the minister gave the blessing.
And then it was time to celebrate – and celebrate everyone did. To this day, Leanne and Nicholas’s guests are still complimenting them on their reception – no big surprise, as the party was still in full swing when the venue was closing down. The mark of any successful event!
And here is where we leave Leanne and Nicholas – at the beginning of their journey through life together. But if you think that Fate has left them too, think again – because their secret honeymoon is still to take place. We don’t know what Fate has in store for this happy couple, but if past events are anything to go by, we’re sure it will be nothing short of spectacular.
