Date: 14 February 2009

About the bride:
25 year old accountant doing my articles at KPMG. Although I’m an accountant I love art and creative things so planning my own wedding was so much fun!
About the groom:
29 year Civil Engineer who works for Murray and Roberts Marine
How did you meet:
We met at his friend’s 25th birthday party – at Rhode’s House of all places! We started chatting and the next thing he asked me out on a date (lunch at Kirstenbosch) and the rest is history!
How long did you date before he popped the big question?
We dated for almost five years
How did he propose?
He had a storey that we were meeting friends from Joburg at a hotel in Bantry Bay. When we arrived at reception he asked for the couple we were to meet, they directed us to their room, when we got there the door was unlocked and we walked in and the room was covered in rose petals. First thing he did was get down on one knee and propose!
How long did you have to plan the wedding and did you enjoy the planning process?
We were engaged for 11 months. Most people who know me, know that I had started planning before we were even engaged! I loved the planning, although the toughest thing was having been exposed to a mom who is a very talented florist I had seen far too many ideas, narrowing these down to a final colour and theme was quite something!!! I was possibly one of the most indecisive brides (except about the Groom of course) we changed the date, venue and theme all before finally setting on the details which worked out incredibly well! Having my mom to help me with all the décor ideas was an incredible help.
Describe details and memorable moments from your wedding day?
Getting ready really was a lot of fun (although stressful!). Actually finally putting on the wedding dress was very exciting! Walking down the aisle was also the best feeling, knowing that your future husband is there waiting for you! It was also great having 5 minutes to ourselves to see the stunning venue that my mom had set up before going to meet everyone after the ceremony. I loved Colin’s speech and to me that was the highlight of the reception!
What advice can you give to future couples, getting married?
Set up a realistic budget upfront and make provision for the fact that just about everything will probably be more expensive especially in the few weeks leading up to the wedding. Enjoy the planning – don’t get too confused by all the millions of ideas out there – go with something that speaks of you as a couple! Enjoy every last second of the day, it really goes by so fast. The most valuable thing you can chose for your day is a venue with great service and food (the Vineyard was amazing, the functions coordinator Robyn was invaluable) and don’t skimp on the photographer when all is said and done that really is all you have left.
