Bride: Jeannine O'Linn
Groom: Ben Wagner
Bridesmaids: Christine Donnelly with flower girl, Sinead
Best Man: Glen Assheton-Row
Date: 14 April 2007
Scene: Diemersfontein in Wellington
Little did Jeannine and Ben think that when they first met at a friend’s engagement party they would one day become a couple – let alone share a romantic proposal on a hilltop with the surrounding valleys and mountains as witness. But engaged they were, in circumstances so ideal that the tone for the rest of their wedding preparations was immediately set.
Thus the planning, and the organising of details began, only to be taken over with consummate skill by their wedding co-ordinators who oversaw all the finer points of the celebration, much to the couple’s relief.
And what details they were! Everything about Jeannine and Ben’s ceremony had been looked after with such care and attention, both by the planners and the couple themselves, that their special day was a revelation for even the most seasoned wedding guest.
From the solemn procession of Jeannine’s dog Tyson in his role as ringbearer, to the minister’s relaxed yet infinitely touching sermon, the perfection of the day was so complete that the tissues provided for guests were used up almost instantly. And of course the same attention to detail was carried through to the couple’s memorable reception, where well-wishing speeches flowed like fine wine, touching the hearts of friends and family, some who had travelled long distances to share in the romance of such a perfect day.
However, the pièce de resistance was a detail that none of the guests expected, but which moved them all the same – a movie made by the groom for his bride, and screened during his speech on plasma TVs hired specifically for the occasion. Turning a superb event into a truly exceptional one.
And after the couple’s first dance together as man and wife in front of their loved ones, the honeymoon came as a perfect ending to their perfect day. Although perhaps the word ‘honeymoon’ is too tame a word to describe the first weeks of Jeannine and Ben’s life together. Epic journey would be more appropriate for a surprise trip planned by Ben, that took them from Paris and Provence through the principality of Monaco to the vineyards of Tuscany and the canals of Venice - a three-week adventure with perfection in every second, and memories in every minute.
