It’s the stuff romantic novels are made of – eyes meeting across a crowded room, stolen glances traded, and a shared bond formed with barely any words spoken. But this was no romantic novel – this was the beginning of a real-life romance between Elizabeth and Aidan, one that would eventually seal their commitment to one another and bind their destinies forever.
After a meeting at a birthday party that saw the couple become inseparable, the only logical conclusion to this perfect two-year courtship was a magical proposal – which Aidan provided in superb style on a six-week trip to Australia to visit the country of Elizabeth’s birth. One surprise evening getaway and two glasses of champagne later, the star-crossed couple were engaged.
And here our story really begins. With wedding preparations singing their way down the wires between Cape Town and London, one would think there would be no end of miscommunication and crossed lines. But true to fairytale form (and that inimitable fairy godmother, the Internet), everything went according to plan. Barring one flight from London to Cape Town to check the arrangements in person, all wedding preparations were made online without a hitch, from chair ties and florists to photographers and catering.
Every self-respecting romance leads up to the day where the hero and heroine pledge their love for one another in a lavish ceremony attended by friends and family – and our story is no different. The gardens of The Vineyard Hotel provided the perfect setting for Elizabeth and Aidan’s enchanting ceremony, lending their natural beauty to the splendour of the occasion. And the traditional Australian songs played by the band made the bride feel right at home.
It wouldn’t be a real fairytale without a few surprises along the way – which is what Elizabeth and Aidan discovered at their reception, when all 14 members of the bridal party banded together for a rendition of ‘Waltzing Elizabeth’ to the tune of ‘Waltzing Matilda’, complete with personalised lyrics for the happy couple. And that touching gesture set the tone for the rest of the exquisite evening that was enjoyed to the full by all 110 guests, most of whom had flown in from around the world to show their love and support for the bride and groom.
And from perfect wedding to perfect honeymoon the two went, on a week-long trip to Zanzibar, followed by a week in Durban with friends, and a cruise from Miami around the Caribbean with Royal Caribbean Cruises. A trip worthy of the most beloved of fairytales, and an epic romance to rival them.
And they both lived happily ever after.
