Just when you think you have life under control, Fate throws a surprise at you that can have the power to change your future forever. And so it was for Daniëlia and Wynand who met unexpectedly at a friend’s house and knew instantly that they were meant to be together.

When it came to the perfect proposal, Fate had yet another surprise in store for Daniëlia, courtesy of Wynand and a lot of planning and ingenuity. Faking a phone call from a colleague, Wynand dragged an annoyed Daniëlia to ‘see a client’ at Vrede and Lust on their day off. But surprise, surprise – waiting at Vrede and Lust was no client, but a generously packed picnic basket filled with cheeses, chocolates and one sparkling engagement ring. Thankfully Daniëlia recovered from the surprise enough to say an emphatic ‘yes’, and the couple’s engagement was begun.

In searching for a venue for their special day, Daniëla this time took control out of Fate’s hands and booked Durbanville Hills a year and a half in advance – leaving no room for any unplanned surprises there. A little help from endless task lists and a lot of support from Wynand meant the wedding plans went off without a hitch – surprising in itself as most wedding planners will tell you.

Pampered by her bridesmaids with sundowners and a long walk on the beach, Daniëlia spent the night before her wedding at the Blue Peter Hotel, before having a leisurely breakfast the next day. Surprisingly enough, the wedding party was ready half an hour early, and was treated to a life-saving drink in Blue Peter’s private lounge – a welcome respite for any nervous bride.

After arriving at the NG Kerk Blouberg a respectable five minutes late (no surprises there!) the ceremony began, and Daniëlia and Wynand were pronounced man and wife. Then it was off to the reception venue for a superb celebration with family and friends, beginning with a first dance to a Kurt Darren song, and ending well after midnight.

The wedding may have been over, but Fate still had one surprise left for Daniëlia – in the form of a honeymoon in and around Knysna, a place Daniëlia had never been before but fell in love with instantly. With the tone set perfectly for the rest of their lives together, it will come as no surprise that she and Wynand are destined to live happily ever after.
