Groom: Jattie de beer
Bride: Ilse le Roux Wedding date: 23 May 2009 Wedding venue: Casablanca Manor Proposal details: Jattie told me in the second week of January that we are going to the Drakensberg the following weekend, as one of our friends booked a weekend for him and his wife the previous year already but couldn't go anymore. This was of course not true, as he planned the whole weekend all along! So we arrived there on the Friday evening and then decided to go hiking on the Saturday in the Royal National Park. We thought it would be best to choose a 3km hike to Tiger Falls so that we don’t tire ourselves out too much! What we didn't know was that the last kilometre was extremely steep, and I had to stop every 10 seconds to take a breather, but Jattie just kept encouraging me, shading me from the sun whenever I had to sit down – he knew of course what surprise was waiting for me! When we arrived at the top I was as red as a tomato! Jattie asked me to unpack our picnic lunch on a rock overlooking hunderds of kilometers of Drakensberg Valley while he went into the bush to relieve himself...the next minute he appeared in his pinstripe suit complete with his formal shoes and champagne which he carried all the way up in his backpack without me knowing! He went down on one knee on the rock in front of me and asked me if I would be his wife...and of course I said yes! What made the whole experience extra special, is that a year ago we picked up 3 heart shaped rocks in Natures Valley on our first road trip together, and just after he proposed we walked along the path on our way to the waterfall, and saw a heart shaped rock embodied in another rock on the path...confirmation! |
