About Us

About Sandra

I (Sandra) was born in Pretoria, but have lived in Europe & Namibia, before my family settled in the Boland (my favourite place in the world!). I am a Stellenbosch University graduate in Biochemistry and currently working in the Cape.

I am a social, out-going person and love spending time with great people and having fun. My hobbies include running, swimming, tennis/squash, rock climbing, horse-riding and dancing. I love my family, the outdoors, reading, animals and, of course, Justin *grin*

About Justin

I (Justin) was born in Sandton, JHB. I went to primary school at Grey College, Port Elizabeth, and high school at Paul Roos, Stellenbosch. I work for the University of Stellenbosch as an IT professional. I love cuddles, walks in the mountain near our flat and spending time with my liefie. My hobbies include mountain biking, cooking and professional gaming. I love Sandra. One day I want to be a great dad and be respected by my friends and partner.

How We Met

Justin & Sandra almost met many times over the years - they had several mutual friends & acquaintenances, but somehow always missed eachother. It was only in Jan/Feb 2006 that they became acquainted through a group of people Sandra had befriended over the Dec holiday.

They were introduced by these friends at a braai in Stellenbosch. Sandra was in a relationship at the time and Justin was casually dating someone/s. His eye fell on her and he decided he'd really like to get to know her better.

Justin had acquired a new single-malt whisky that day (Laphroaig) and was trying it for the first time that night. His first words to Sandra were "Would you like to try this whisky?". Sandra enjoyed his company & found him a fascinating, playful & yet surprisingly down-to-earth person.

As to how they ended up together - that's a long story. But to this day Laphroaig is Justin's favourite whisky and he says the characteristic smokey aroma always reminds him of their first meeting.

The Proposal

When we got engaged

1 September 2007

How it happened

A friend had teased Sandra about a dress she was wearing & said she looked like she was going on a date. So Sandra suggested to Justin that they go on a date again, after being in a relationship for over a year. He agreed & said he would make a booking for the Saturday night.

At the restaurant, they were guided to a secluded table-for-two, surrounded by soft candle-light & luscious decor. They chatted over starters & wine, and when the time came to order the main course, Justin suggested the Spring Menu the restaurant was offering.

As Sandra skipped own the menu to her favourite (good old fillet mignon), she tried to read the dish's description. However, instead of the description, there stood "A promise of eternal love & devotion, with a request for your hand in marriage". Not realising what it meant, she was still stuttering with confusion when Justin got up and knelt down next to her, ring in hand.

How could a girl say no? :-)
