Gert's design signature is a classic simplicity. Timeless, elegant and frequently breathtaking, his designs have a cosmopolitan edge. His rise to prominence in the South African fashion industry has been swift. After graduating from the Cape Technikon's fashion school in 1989, Gert worked on the casual wear ranges Billabong and Country Feeling in Jeffrey's Bay, before joining Jenni Button's Cape Town couture division in 1990. In 1996 he was the winner of the Catherine Award and in 1998 the J & B Rare Designer Award was presented to him.
Today, his couture studios in Cape Town and Pretoria produce some of the most beautiful bridal gowns and glamorous evening wear to be found. His secrets: an unerring eye for beauty, in all shapes and sizes, a down-to-earth demeanour that endears him to his many clients, and an irrepressible creative urge. In Gert's own words: ‘The bottom line is that I really love my work… women inspire me!'.
